Colour
Artwork supplied to Discsmart should be in CMYK, Greyscale or use Pantone Colours. RGB is not acceptable.
Quality/Resolution
Artwork supplied should be a minimum resolution of 300dpi, any lower resolution will result in pixilation and reduced image quality.
All artwork text should be checked for consistency and be no lower than 6pt. Any text smaller than this may not be legible in the final print. Fonts should ideally be supplied with the artwork as it is possible that font substitute may occur on different machines.
Templates
Please supply your final artwork using the templates that are downloadable above. These following points will help you supply artwork to us correctly:
1) The document size of our templates must not be altered in any way.
2) Please drop your artwork onto our template and not the other way around
3) Our templates show where the “bleed” should be, the limits of where text should sit, folds and where the printed image will be trimmed. This is normally provided on a 'guide' in the top left of the template. This may not be evident on certain specialized templates, so please contact us for instructions should you need help.
4) The chosen template must not be modified in any way, and a high resolution PDF should be output.
5) By default, the template guides are set to suppress on output and so should disappear once your PDF is made.
Booklets
If supplying booklet artwork, please supply booklet artwork (unless instructed otherwise) in “printers pairs” such as:
12 & 1
2 & 11
10 & 3
4 & 9
8 & 5
6 & 7
Odd numbered pages sit on the right. If you remember this rule, you can apply it to any sized booklet. Please also be aware that the centre pages should be the last pages on your document.
CD Onbody Artwork
Please ensure your CD onbody artwork does not include a centre hole or stacking ring, we will grid this artwork correctly and supply an approval for you.
Please ensure that the minimum text size used on cd onbody artwork is 6pt or above. Any text smaller than this may not be legible in the final print.
Fonts
Specialized fonts should be sent to us along with your artwork. In some cases if we do not have the font on our machines, font substitution may occur and could result in font replacement to a standard such as courier.
To prevent this we would require the fonts to be sent to us in "Truetype'. These generally come in two parts, a printer file and a screen file. In order for us to use your fonts correctly we will require you to supply both of these font elements.
Please also ensure that you embed any fonts into your artwork when supplying PDF files.
Proofs
Discsmart can provide you with a digital artwork proof and a physical artwork proof (by request). Digital artwork proofs will be sent to you via email whilst physical proofs will be sent by first class post for approval. We advise strongly to check all the wording for possible spelling mistakes as this cannot be undone once it has gone to print!
Colour Accuracy
If colour accuracy is critical to you then we advise that a physical proof of the final artwork is sent to you by request. Colours represented on screen are different to colours produced by printers. RGB is used for monitor colour whilst printers use CMYK to produce the colours. As a reminder, it is important that all artwork is supplied to us in CMYK and not RGB.
Colour Shift
It is important to note that slight colour shift can occur on printed parts due to the nature of materials being "porous". Disc faces and printed paper parts may result in being slightly unmatched due to this natural phenomenon. However we do our best to keep these elements as close as possible to the provided original artwork.
